Iris Triptych-- Birch Boxes
The 8" x 8" birch boxes became the perfect way for me to create a beautiful ensemble of purple iris blooms, as if sharing one garden space. I covered each of the boxes from one sheet of my chartreuse green, marbled paper and created (with other marbled papers) an array of leaves, stalks and the rich violet blooms. This ensemble--small, individual vignettes melding into one lively visual narrative of lush chroma and pattern.
Tulips come to life, painted on a "peacock" patterned marble paper of pyrole red, titanium white and dioxine purple. The tulip fields of the Skagitt Valley came to mind as I imagined this collection of red vase-like blooms.
